Boone County Fitness Center held the Weigh to Go challenge from Jan. 2 to Feb. 21. Winner of the overall individual weight loss challenge was Raymond Dozler. The group with the highest percentage of weight lost was “Fat on Fire” comprised of Albion Fire & Rescue members. The group won a total of $250, which was presented last Saturday night to Joann Porter for the Eli Porter Memorial Playground Project. Boone Central FFA had daily activities during National FFA Week from Feb. 19-25. One of the popular events (above) was the annual Petting Zoo held in the Ag Shop on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Elementary students stopped by to see a wide variety of animals that included sheep, goats, a calf, chickens and geese. The week culminated with the annual FFA Breakfast last Sunday at the Albion KC Hall.

Boone County Planning Commission now has a new zoning administrator, Teri Jasa, and they opened a busy schedule Monday night, Feb. 26, after not meeting since February of 2023.

Construction is progressing well on the first two speculative homes being built for the Albion Economic Development Corp. at 11th and State Streets.

Tickets for the 2024 Boone County Fair Concert, featuring the Eli Young Band with special guest Walker Montgomery, will go on sale this Friday, March 1. The concert will be Saturday night, July 6, at the fairgrounds grandstand.

On Sunday, Rosie Heying was among those attending the baptism of Hunter James Heying at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. Later, she joined the guests attending the celebration hosted by Hunter’s parents, Austin and Conner Heying and family at Elgin.

Cardinal Spirit Squad competed 2024 NCA Nebraska State Cheer & Dance Championships at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island this weekend. Boone Central’s cheer team performed in the Game Day category in C1, placing 19th and scoring 72.10 points with no deductions.
