With no new filings for local or Boone County offices since Feb. 22, there will likely be no contested races for these offices in the May 14 primary election.
Boone County Foundation Fund (BCFF), an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation, is now accepting grant applications from local non-profit organizations. Applications supporting projects and programs that have a positive impact on quality of life in Boone County will be considered.

Albion Area Arts council has a new director, Alee Mullings, starting March 1. Jennifer Walters, Arts Council director since 2022, has accepted a new position as events manager with the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, DC.
Maggie Smith, economic development and housing program director for the City of Albion since September 2022, is moving to a new position with the Nebraska Community Foundation (NCF). Smith will be a regional Affiliated Fund Development Coordinator with NCF, serving Northeast Nebraska.
Petersburg Village Board is partnering with Town and Country Veterinarian Clinic to provide a Dog Vaccination Clinic for Petersburg’s village residents. The clinic will held at the Petersburg Fire Hall on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 10 a.m.
A Christian comedy and dinner show at the Boone County Fairgrounds had a sold-out crowd of 250 people last Saturday night, Feb. 24. This event was sponsored by the Akron Community Church as a fund-raiser for renovation of the former Akron School.
Nebraska’s Smoke Advisory System has been activated for 2024. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services implemented the public smoke advisory system in 2018. Smoke advisories will be issued when conditions make it likely that the smoke from prescribed burning or wildfires could significantly affect air quality in parts of the state.
