Paul S. McDonald, 90

Memorial Service for Paul S. McDonald, 90, of Lincoln, were held Monday, March 31, 2025, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military honors. McDonald was born July 2, 1934, in Elwood, Kansas to Marion and Leta (Delaney) Mc Donald and he died Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the Lakeview Assisted Living in Firth. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Marjorie “Marge” Norskov on June 19, 1960, in Albion. McDonald worked in sales and as a warehouse manager for Kraft Foods and later worked as an adjudication officer with the US Immigration Services.

Patricia A. Hruby, 84

A Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia Ann Hruby, age 84, was held Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. Rev. Frank Baumert officiated, and inurnment will follow at a later date at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Elgin. Patricia Ann Hruby was born in Clearwater, Nebraska on June 14, 1940, to the late Albert and Erma (Zegers) Sehi, and she passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Faith Regional Medical Center in Norfolk, Nebraska. She graduated from the Clearwater District School in 1957. Patricia was the second of five children. Patricia married the late Gerald Dozler in 1960. They farmed until they moved to Elgin. Together, they had five children. Gerald died in 1975. Patricia married John Hruby on September 21, 1977. Together, they managed a gas station, café, and hobby farm in Oakdale, Nebraska. After the Elkhorn River flood, they relocated to Elgin.

Darlene Ann Vetick, 82

Funeral services were held for Darlene Ann Vetick, 82, of Lyons on Tuesday, March 11th 2025 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons. Darlene Ann Vetick, the daughter of Frank and Alfreda (Velder) Schalk, was born March 23, 1942, at her home in Petersburg, and she passed away March 5th, 2025 at her home in Lyons, surrounded by loved ones after a battle with cancer at the age of 82. She attended a country school (Little Red School House) for elementary and graduated from Primrose High School in 1960. She met Ed Vetick and they were united in marriage at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus, on January 7th 1961. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. The couple ventured t o Northeast Nebraska and rooted th e i r f amily in Lyons. Vetick had a love for children and did in-home daycare for 30-plus years. She also worked at Lyons-Decatur Schools for 15 years. She enjoyed taking the kids to the pool, parks and to run on the track.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan J. Smith, 90, of Albion, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service. Fr. Matt Gutowski will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Albion. Smith was born April 19, 1934, and she passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albion. Levander Funeral Home of Albion, is in charge of the arrangements.
