Speech team in conference tourney

St. Edward speech team members traveled to Elba on Wednesday, Feb. 21, to compete in the Goldenrod Conference Tournament. Team members (above, l.-r.) are Allie Brauner, Noah Ketelsen, Claire Tibor, Kalvin Sindelar, Josie Sock and Lakin Prososki. Earning medals were Claire Tibor, second in Program Oral Interpretation (POI) and Allie Brauner, fifth in poetry. Other events for St. Edward speakers were Josie Sock and Lakin Prososki (duet acting), and Noah Ketelsen and Kalvin Sindelar (humorous prose).

Riverside back in state tourney

Riverside has been in many state tournaments since the school was established in the merger with Spalding. The Chargers were often postseason favorites, with powerful teams, outstanding seasons and rewarding championships.

Boone Beginnings holds open house

New programs for the coming year were discussed during an open house at Boone Beginnings Early childhood & Family Development Center in Albion last Wednesday evening, Feb. 21. Above, Mattaya Addison, l., Boone Beginnings director, and Kylie Dawson, assistant director, discuss programs with parents Kara and Curtis Thompson. Specific programs addressed at the meeting were the infant/toddler summer program, three-year-old preschool, four-year-old preschool, and the after school program.

Fire/Rescue weight loss winners donate funds

Boone County Fitness Center held the Weigh to Go challenge from Jan. 2 to Feb. 21. Winner of the overall individual weight loss challenge was Raymond Dozler. The group with the highest percentage of weight lost was “Fat on Fire” comprised of Albion Fire & Rescue members. The group won a total of $250, which was presented last Saturday night to Joann Porter for the Eli Porter Memorial Playground Project. Participating fire/rescue personnel in this photo include (l.-r.) MUSICAL REHEARSALS -- This year’s Boone Central Musical will be Roger’s and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” Rehearsals are now underway for the production, which will be staged March 15-17 in the Performance Gym. The updated story has a few changes to appeal to modern audiences. Above, students rehearse a scene where the ladies fight over Prince Topher (Nathan Devine) at the ball.

Boone Central FFA has active week

Boone Central FFA had daily activities during National FFA Week from Feb. 19-25. One of the popular events (above) was the annual Petting Zoo held in the Ag Shop on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Elementary students stopped by to see a wide variety of animals that included sheep, goats, a calf, chickens and geese. The week culminated with the annual FFA Breakfast last Sunday at the Albion KC Hall.
