At Memorial Day services in Newman Grove on May 27, an emphasis was placed on remembering and continuing the legacy of fallen military members. American Legion Post #73 Color Guard marched into the cemetery to open the program.

One of the memories is my first visit to Morrill Hall. Our country school had taken a field trip to Lincoln and, from the moment we walked through the door, this country mouse was captivated by the sight of those huge and unusual creatures found buried throughout our state, some of them just outside our back doors.

St. Edward’s Evergreen Cemetery was resplendent in red, white and blue for the annual Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday morning, May 27.

An initial special meeting to organize the pool and park committee was held Thursday, May 23, by the St. Edward City Council.

Activities at the St. Edward Christian Community Church for June include: Church services are held on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.

The Albion Legion Post #162 Seniors baseball team hosted the “Cornerstone Baseball Tournament” this past weekend at the local field with five teams playing in a round-robin style event over May 24-26.

This past week, the Albion Post 162 Junior Legion baseball team started their summer season by hosting Plainview on Monday and traveling to St. Paul on Wednesday. Monday was a great night for baseball, and a great team effort, as the Albion Juniors squeaked away with a close 7-6 win to start the season. A gritty St. Paul team played well against Albion, as Albion fell 10-2.

Riverside Chargers track teams traveled to Omaha for the 2024 Class D State Invitational. They earned a ninth-place boys overall finish, a 28th for the girls, and a number of individual medalists.

The annual Memorial Day ceremony was held at the Veteran’s Memorial in Petersburg. Vice Commander Pat Cleveland welcomed those in attendance. This was followed by advancement of the colors by Post 334. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Post 334 Auxiliary followed by the National Anthem sung by Emma Lordemann and Sadie Goodwater. Invocation was given by Chaplain Hank Thieman.
