The Mid-State Conference is a force to be reckoned with in any sport! Track and Field is definitely no exception! Teams fight and claw for every point they can earn so that they can hold the sacred piece of plastic that shouts “Conference Champion”! The Boone Central Cardinals jumped right into the fray at the Wayne High School hosted meet, earning a runnerup spot in the Girls’ Division, and a solid 3rd in the boys, doing most of their damage with gritty 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place finishes. Leading the Cardinal teams were impressive wins by Braylee Young, Austin Dodds, and the girls’ 4x100 relay.

Nathan Hemmingsen was selected to wrestle for the AAU World Freestyle tournament from March 18th-24th. Hemmingsen is an 8th grader at Boone Central Middle School.

The third annual Nebraska Junior High (5-8 grade) State Finals Rodeo was held over the weekend at the Boone County Agriculture and Education Center and Niewohner Arena. More than 90 contestants from 55 different came to the community on May 7-8 to show their talents, including: Girls events: Pole Bending, Breakaway, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing, Boys events: Chute Dogging, Breakaway, Tie Down Roping, Goat Tying, Bull/Steer Riding, Bareback Steer Riding, Saddle Bronc Steer Riding, Boys/Girls events: Team Roping, Ribbon Roping.

Memorial services for Glenn “Dugan” G. Davidson, 95, will be 10:30 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ann Mescher, 90, of Albion, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Albion, NE with Fr. Frank Baumert and Deacon Paul Weeder officiating. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held, after which the procession will go to St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Petersburg, where interment will take place. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.

Students from 27 area schools participated in the 2026 Nate Metschke Memorial Honor Band hosted by Neligh-Oakdale. Three ensembles rehearsed throughout the day, enjoyed beautiful weather, ate a pizza and apple lunch, and performed a 4:30 p.m.

The St. Edward FFA Chapter had an exceptional showing at the 2026 State FFA Convention in Lincoln, where 16 dedicated members represented their school and community with pride and excellence.
