WAKEFIELD – It’s lunch, and Rosa Brambila rings up an order of enchiladas and rice for a man from Guatemala, here in Nebraska to work. She pours a beer for a woman from Nicaragua, then brings out a burrito for the town’s only newspaper reporter.

Knights strike down Cardinals in contest

The Knights of Norfolk Catholic were waiting for this week’s matchup with great anticipation. The two teams met Thursday September 5th for the first time in three years when this year’s seniors were only freshman.

Rae Valley building burned for fire fighter training

Another one of Raeville’s historic buildings which was located on the west end of town known as the brick Raeville Garage disappeared Saturday when the Petersburg Fire Department did a controlled burn. The Raeville Garage was built in 1918 by Phil and Bill Borer they also operated the business which was owned by Adolph Schumacher. The large windows were set to catch the morning and afternoon sun making the cars inside shine. Tony Fisher ran it in the 30’s with the slogan The Big Garage in a little town” in the 40’s he added a black smith service, set tires and repaired wagon wheels. Leonard Pelster also ran it for a time.

Calvin “Cal” L. Kleveland, 77

At his request, no services will be held for Calvin “Cal” Leon Kleveland, 77, of Newman Grove at this time. Inurnment will occur at a later date at Hope Cemetery, Newman Grove, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #73 of Newman Grove and the Army Funeral Honor Guard.

Farmers Market held over weekend

The Albion Farmers Market was held at the Venue in downtown Albion over the weekend. Shoppers were greeted by vendors or all types, and proceeds of the event were used to help fund and encourage a youth entrepreneur in their venture.

Panthers run at Albion CC

The Newman Grove-St. Edward Panthers cross country team traveled to Albion this past weekend, with eight other teams at the Albion Country Club.
