Newman Grove NHS inducts new members

The Newman Grove National Honor Society (NHS) welcomed seven new members during its induction ceremony held on Monday, March 24th. This year marks the 98th anniversary of the school’s NHS charter, which was issued on April 26, 1927, making it one of the oldest in the state of Nebraska.
New inductees are (l-r): Micah Cuevas, Dylan Luetkenhaus, Piper Jarecki, Allyx Forre, Isabella Santarosa and Madysen Wiese.

Track teams battle with Blue Devils

The Boone Central track teams made a return trip to Wayne last week for the Wayne Blue Devil Invite on April 8th. The meet included athletes from Columbus Scotus, Pierce, Wakefield, Columbus Lakeview, David City, Tekamah-Herman, and the host school Wayne.

“3 for 3” donated...

Steven Ruzek, Vice President & Assistant Manager of Cornerstone Bank-Albion, presented a $825 check to the Boone Central Cardinals boys and girls varsity basketball players. The $825 donation was for Cornerstone’s “$3 for 3” contribution. Cornerstone Bank donates $3 to Boone Central Schools for every three point basket made throughout the season. This past year, the girls made 106 three pointers and the boys made 169 three pointers for a total of 275.

Scouts hold Pinewood Derby

The Albion Cub Scout Pack held its annual Pinewood Derby competition this past weekend, with scouts of all ages participating in three groups with winners moving to the grand finals. Big winners this year were, as reported from the Grand Finals results: 1, Claire Banzhaf, Girl Scouts, #22 Dry Banana Hippie, 2.51s, 191.51 average MPH 2, Annabelle Banzhaf, Girl Scouts, #21 Camping, 2.5309s, 189.93 avg.
Albion’s Cub, Pack and Girl Scout troops had members participate, including an open class.

FFA claims titles, Andreasen two-time state Champ

Boone Central FFA members traveled to Lincoln from April 2 - 4 to participate in the Nebraska State FFA Convention. While there, they competed in Leadership Development Events (LDEs), Career Development Events (CDEs), Agriscience Fair, and Proficiency finals along with attending sessions, workshops, and keynote speakers.

Picked AG Youth Conference

Aiden Klein, son of Amy and Martin Klein of Petersburg, and Landyn Veik, son of Heather and Adam Veik of Elgin, were recently selected through an essay contest to attend the Mike Hilgers Nebraska Attorney General Youth Conference Day.

The Lower Loup Natural Resources District (LLNRD) is now accepting entries for its 2025 Photo Contest. The intent of the contest is to inspire photographers of every level to visit LLNRD recreation areas and to explore the scenic district.

Shred event to help Food Pantry

Jill Anding of Thrivent, a Fortune 500 diversified financial services organization, is partnering with the Boone County Area Food Pantry to host a shred event. During this event, Thrivent will offer free paper shredding to the community, and assemble and donate Birthday Party Bags to the food pantry People are invited to join the event on Wednesday, April 30, from 4-6 p.m., at 1112 W State Street to help the Boone County Area Food Pantry with a goal of assembling 50 Birthday Party Bags.
