It’s frustrating being a journalist these days. I’m not talking about someone that’s taken a penchant for enjoying writing to their followers on a social media platform a few times a week - I’m talking about real, trained journalists.

They say you learn something new every day. Well, this week I learned that there is such a thing as state junior high track.

May 14 at 10 p.m. the Petersburg Fire Department was alerted by the Elgin Fire Chief of a fire concern, the department immediately began preparations’ a short while later they responded to the mutual aid call. The fire which the Petersburg Department responded to was south of Havels, there were other departments also responding to other fires. It was difficult in the darkness to tell how many acres were burned. This fire just like the other fires probably started by lighting when a storm moved through with strong lighting but no moisture. The department returned to the station at 1 a.m.

The last few weeks, after my adventure in the hospital a few months ago - I have to admit, my life, as it was/ is, flashed before my eyes a little. I do realize how cliche it is to say, but you just learn to appreciate things once they’re at risk of being gone.

Funeral Services for Barbara J. Buckendahl, 90 of Albion were held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. Rev. Carolann Hopcke officiated, and interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
