“Hero of the Rails” program is based on Reisdorff’s book by the same name, which not only tells the story of George Poell’s bravery, but includes accounts of other brave acts by railroad employees during the time when railroads ruled the nation. Reisdorff has authored and co-authored two dozen books on the subject of railroads and their place in Nebraska history.

Border Wars shooting event held...

A special event at the Boone County Agriculture and Education Center and Niewhoner Arena this past week was the “Border Wars” mounted shooting competition. Shooters from Alberta, Canada; and Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming took part in the event. The event was hosted by the High Plains Shooters group from Litchfield, and is just one of a few events competing for the CMSA National Championship in Lincoln.

“Tis better to give than receive” - that old adage certainly seems to make some waves here in Albion. I was at the Boone Central Honors Night the other evening to continue the Dickerson’s tradition of encouraging local journalism and youth going into journalism by giving away a scholarship.

At the May meeting of the Petersburg Community Club members discussed the upcoming parade dates in which the PCC Club float participates. Most dates are already listed with the exception of Elgin. If anyone knows that date please contact President Danielle Koch. Also, if anyone would be willing to transport the float to any parade, please let some-one know.
Hank Thieman and Auxiliary member Connie Stuhr presented a check for $650 to PCC president Danielle Koch toward the purchase of a community nativi-ty set. Money was collected in a donation jar during the Lenton fish fry’s with matching funds from the Petersburg American Legion Post 334 and it’s Auxiliary along with funds from Sons of the American Legion

NRCA to travel through town this year

The 2025 Nebraska Rod and Custom Association have announced the “traveling car show’s” route for this summer, including a trip up Highway 14 through a number of communities. On Sunday, June 1, 440-plus classic vehicles will be traveling through the communities, including a stop at the Boone County Fairgrounds for the group’s morning break until 10 a.m.

AED donated to Fitness Center

Boone County Health Center (BCHC) has donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and secure cabinet to the Boone County Fitness Center. The AED will be installed near the pool area on the facility’s lower level—clearly visible and easily accessible during a cardiac emergency.

Cardinal alum to join UNK at Carnegie Hall

University of Nebraska at Kearney choir members will perform at the world’s most famous concert venue later this month – including one member from Albion. Associate music professor and director of choral activities John Petzet is taking 32 students to New York City for a once-in-alifetime opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall in Midtown Manhattan.
