Eve Pauline Maricle, 97, of St. Edward, passed away Wednesday, Feb.

April 21, 1929 – February 18, 2024 Delores Alma Wobig, 94, of Lincoln, passed away on Feb. 18, 2024.

Donna Jean Baker, 94, of St. Edward, passed away on Monday, Feb.

A Christian comedy and dinner show at the Boone County Fairgrounds had a sold-out crowd of 250 people last Saturday night, Feb. 24. Above, featured comedian Jarell Roach (third from right) was joined on stage by audience members for a “Name That Tune” activity. This event was sponsored by the Akron Community Church as a fund-raiser for renovation of the former Akron School.

Nebraska’s Smoke Advisory System has been activated for 2024. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services implemented the public smoke advisory system in 2018. Smoke advisories will be issued when conditions make it likely that the smoke from prescribed burning or wildfires could significantly affect air quality in parts of the state.

Albion Chamber of Commerce is planning two special events in mid-March. The Taste of Albion will be held Friday evening, March 22, 6 to 9 p.m.

Several important honors and awards were presented to Albion Fire & Rescue members during their annual banquet Saturday evening, Feb. 24.

Ken Stone, right, was honored in February for 50 years of membership in Newman Grove American Legion Post 73. The certificate and pin were presented by Charlie Borg, left. Stone served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972. He joined American Legion Post 73, in 1974.

Newman Grove FFA members competed in the second round of District CDEs at Central Community College on Monday, Feb. 26.

Newman Grove City Council held a brief special meeting last Thursday night, Feb. 22, and approved the first basement excavation in the Fowlkes Second Addition at 408 Pine Ridge Circle.
