County Fair underway with big weekend crowds

BIG CROWD -- Saturday night’s country music concert was moved into the Niewohner Arena due to threatening storms. Walker Montgomery, the opening performer, played to a crowd of 1,500 people. Delayed. The carnival was held only Tuesday and Wednesday due to the damp conditions on Monday.

Monday was also Kid’s Day at the fair with special events from 3 to 6 p.m.

Tuesday Events

Rumble on the Raceway, a fast-paced Outlaw Tractor Pull, was held Tuesday evening, July 9, in front of the grandstand. This event featured specialized hot rod tractors from the Heartland Pulling Series.

Tuesday was also Senior Day with special events from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Casey building. The annual Down-Home Horse Show was scheduled Tuesday evening in the outdoor arena.

Wednesday Events

Today, July 10, is the final full day of the fair. Junior Rodeo will be featured at 11 a.m. in the outdoor arena, and the Women’s Day program will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Casey building. Team roping competition is scheduled at 7 p.m. in the outdoor arena.

A variety of entertainment will be featured at the grandstand starting at 7 p.m. with comedian Gayle Becwar, followed at 8 p.m. by the Enduro 100-mile race.

The Pioneer Band will entertain with a concert and dance starting at 9 p.m.

The annual 4-H Livestock Sale will be held Thursday, July 11, starting at 9 a.m. in the arena.
