St. Edward Council approves sreet vacation, sewer study

St, Edward City Council approved motions to vacate a street and begin a sewer system study during a short regular meeting Monday night, March 4.

The council voted to vacate a section of undeveloped Second Street, north of Hardy Street. Once vacated, the real estate ownership would transfer to Mike Funkhouser, the property owner on both sides of the designated street.

The council voted to contract with JEO Consulting Engineers to do a sewer study for the Hardy Addiion and the potential housing addition east of town at an estimated cost of $25,000.

The council approved a one-year contract with Warren Myer as St. Edward’s building inspector. Myer also serves as Albion’s building inspector. In addition to building inspections and reports, Myer would also conduct vacant property registrations in the community.

Mayor Melissa McIntosh read and signed a proclamation designating April as Child Abuse Awareness Month in the community.

In other business at the March 4 meeting, the city councl:

• adopted a resolution to sell two former horse arena lots to Rhonda Suehl for $700.

• approved the hiring of Jarecki Lawncare and Green House to apply fertilizer on the football field at $3,342 for the season.

• approved a proposal from Boone County Epoxy to install epoxy floors in the park concession stand and restrooms at $2,000 to $3,500.

• approved purchase of countertops for the park concession stand using KENO proceeds.

The council tabled an interlocal agreement with St. Edward Public Schools on use of the football field until after the school board’s March meeting..

The council also discussed an offer from Brad Stephens to donate a scoreboard for the Community Building. An electrician will be consulted.

Council member Dianne Sindelar also requested an annual report on the uses and operating costs of the community center.
