Construction is progressing well on the first two speculative homes being built for the Albion Economic Development Corp. at 11th and State Streets.

The two three-bedroom homes are now available for sale, and are expected to be ready for occupancy by June 1, 2024.

Each home contains 1,432 square feet of living area plus a three-car garage, and an unfinished basement with framing for a basement bathroom and closet.

The houses have different floor plans, but each includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry, and sliding patio doors. Each home will have a unique front facade.

Before owner occupancy, undergrounds sprinklers will be installed, the lawns will be seeded and landscape rock will be installed.

“The 2020 Albion Housing Study told us that we were 50 units short on housing,” said Maggie Smith, AEDC economic development and housing director. “AEDC is pleased to have addressed the first two questions in this 50-question test.”

Smith pointed out that there are still many opportunities for individuals, contractors and developers to get involved in housing projects for the community.

Those interested in receiving a low interest construction loan from the Albion Rural Workforce Housing Fund can contact Smith at the AEDC office, or by phone or email.
