Watch for a major increase in Boone County’s property valuations this year. Preliminary valuation figures announced Monday indicate a total valuation increase of about 26 percent or $663 million for the county as a whole.
After spending about an hour in deliberation Tuesday, July 16, the Albion City Council accepted the apparent low bids for extending water and sewer improvements to several newly annexed areas, as well as the new South Park Subdivision development. Six companies entered bids for base projects and alternates.
Plans to name the softball field at the Albion Sports Complex in honor of the late Tracy Hedlund were approved by the Albion City Council at its July 16 regular meeting. The field will be officially named Tracy Hedlund Memorial Field to honor Mrs.
Albion property owners will likely see a substantial increase in the property tax levy for the 202425 fiscal year. A preliminary budget presented to the city council on July 16 indicates a 12.7 cent increase in the city’s levy, and a potential 45.7 percent increase in the property taxes collected.
Albion Chamber of Commerce is planning a special event, Back to School Cash, this Thursday, July 25. Area students are invited to bring their report cards to the downtown mini-park from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Land has been leveled and outer forms have been placed for the new storage building at the Boone County Historical Society Museum. A 120 x 50 foot building is planned. B & S Concrete is the contractor for the concrete phase of the project.
