BC TeamMates win regional award

The Boone Central TeamMates Mentoring program was recently awarded the Chapter of the Year award from the North Central region. The Boone Central team reported 26 new mentors recruited to be matched with local students for the year. The Teammate mentors also completed more than 60 refresher trainings, and were able to complete all the new mentor training that was required for the growth of the chapter.

Bonge honored by wrestling group

Longtime head wrestling coach, Dale Bonge, now retired, was recently inducted into the Nebraska USA Wrestling Circle of Honor as a 2024 candidate for his efforts and service to the sport of wrestling.

Fire, rescue personnel get weekend training here

Volunteer emergency responders received training in areas ranging from search and rescue to sports injuries and mental health during the Mini Fire School hosted by Albion Fire & Rescue last Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10.

Meis is re-elected to Soybean Board

Anna Meis of Elgin was re-elected in July to serve a new term as the District 1 representative on the Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB). Meis will again serve the counties of Antelope, Boyd, Cedar, Holt, Knox, Madison and Pierce on the board.

Free Little Library opens near park

The one under the shelter is “The Free Little Library” in the Uptown Park shelter which contains books for all ages. Its hoped that parents or grandparents will take a book and read while the kids are playing in the park or anyone can take a book home read it and bring it back. There are kid’s books which might be good for a quick read. Also residents are welcome to add books to the collection.

Crouch is new Livestock Systems Educator for area

Josie Crouch, a recent graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is the new Livestock Systems Extension Educator for a seven-county region that includes Boone County. A native of Rolla, Missouri, she will be based at the Nance County Extension office in Fullerton.

150 new bills coming into effect

Body
A flurry of new state laws took effect Friday, establishing new policies for firearms in small schools, launching Parole Board reforms and expanding open government and voting rights. Of the 150 bills signed into law this year, more than 100 became effective last week.
