JoAnn M. Kunzman
JoAnn Marilyn Kunzman, 92, of Albion, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albion.
JoAnn, daughter of Hollis and Dorothy (Larson) Goodman, was born on Dec. 12, 1931, at the family home in Newman Grove. She was baptized and confirmed at Shell Creek Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. JoAnn attended Newman Grove High School and graduated with the class of 1949. Following graduation, JoAnn taught at District 58, just north of Newman Grove.
On June 23, 1951, JoAnn married the love of her life, Edward Kunzman at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion. They made their home in Albion where they raised their six children. JoAnn and Ed bought the Fairview Lanes in 1972 and continued to operate the bowling alley until the 1980s.
JoAnn was a long-time member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She volunteered at the Mission store and St. Michael’s library, as well as being a para in the kindergarten room at St. Michael’s.
JoAnn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was a good friend to many and very protective of her loved ones. JoAnn enjoyed golfing, sewing, knitting, dancing, and was an avid card player. She especially loved babies and welcomed each new addition to the family.
JoAnn is survived by her six children: Connie (Pete) Sallach, Stan (Sharon) Kunzman, Laura (Jim) Carder, all of Albion, Teresa (Terry) Borer of Papillion, Angie (David) Iverson of Springfield and Mary Allen of Shawnee, KS, 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, brother Roland (Sally) Goodman of Bennington, two sisters: Janice (Jerry) Sokol of Norfolk and Kathy (Ted) Sup of Kearney, three sisters-in-law: Marion Kunzman of Albion, Jeanne Goodman of Colorado and Joan Goodman of Arizona, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hollis and Dorothy Goodman, husband Edward Kunzman, brothers: Duane and Don Goodman, great granddaughter Sydnee Sallach, mother and father-in-law: Anton and Florence Kunzman, along with several beloved brothers and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz officiating. Interment followed at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
