Bernadette F. McIntosh
Bernadette Frances McIntosh, 91, of St. Edward, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.
Bernadette, daughter of Earl and Nina (Watts) Klassen, was born on Dec. 15, 1932, at Loretto. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. Bernie attended elementary school at rural Boone County schools. She helped on the family farm and babysat for several people.
On Jan. 12, 1955, Bernie was united in marriage to Boyd McIntosh at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion. The couple lived and farmed near Genoa, until 1965 when they moved to St. Edward. Bernie was a housewife, mother, and homemaker. She worked as a housekeeper for various individuals and cleaned the St. Edward Catholic Church and St. Edward Public Library.
Bernie was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, and the Altar Society. She loved to play cards with her children and grandchildren. In her younger years, she grew a huge garden. She was the best around at cleaning chickens and making fried chicken.
Bernie is survived by her four children: Rita (Larry) Melcher of Grand Island, John McIntosh of Ainsworth, Beverly McIntosh of Central City and Donna (Chuck Johnson) Hoffmeister of St. Edward, 10 grandchildren: Dawn Peters of Loup City, Amy (Randy) Guenther of Lincoln, Scott Melcher (Sean Hanna) of New York, NY, Melissa McIntosh of St. Edward, Joseph (Jenny) McIntosh of Long Pine, Daniel (Jamie) McIntosh of Ainsworth, Josh (Merridie) Kaup of Fullerton, Bryce Hoffmeister of Lincoln, Danielle Phillips of Arizona and Sara Zywiec of Columbus, nine great grandchildren: Dalton Nathen (Haley), Emily, Samantha, Blake, Boyd, Jamie, Liam and Carter, brother Donald (Mae) Klassen of Silver Creek, Sharon (Jerome) Beenders of Mason City, IL, sister-in-law Susie Klassen of Mason City, IL, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Boyd, son David, son-in-law Steve Kaup, sister Ramona (Addison) Livingston, brothers: Earl “Bud” (Lois) Klassen, Jr., and Richard “Dick” Klassen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward with Rev. Mark Tomasiewicz and Deacon Harlan Long officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with a 7 p.m. wake service.
