Carol A. McDermott, 85
Funeral Mass for Carol A. McDermott, 85, of Fremont, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont.
The Rev. Fr. Walter Nolte will officiate. Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. with visitation from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Carol Ann Wiegand was born in Petersburg, on January 11, 1939, to Henry E. and Barbara (Kunzman) Wiegand, and she died June 19, 2024, at her home. She grew up in Petersburg, graduating from St John the Baptist High School as class valedictorian in 1956. After graduation, she worked for the FBI in Washington DC, Northwestern Bell in Omaha and Walmart in Fremont for 32 years. She married William S. McDermott in Petersburg on June 13th, 1964, with William’s brother, Father Thomas E. McDermott officiating.
She volunteered at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont as an EME, at Bergan High School in the lunchroom, and sang in two choirs. She also volunteered as a den mother for cub scouts and was a founding member of Fremont Area Right to Life.
McDermott wanted to thank all of her friends, family and neighbors, for all the love and support they’ve shown.
She was preceded in death by her son, Matt W. McDermott; three brothers and three sisters.
Carol A. McDermott is survived by her husband, Willam S. McDermott; 2 sons, Philip C. McDermott (Deborah Correa), Michael S. McDermott (Neal Porter); granddaughters, Moriah Volmer (Matthew) and Cristina McDermott; great grandchildren Chloe, Elliana, Adalyn, Melody, and Alessandra (Volmer); sister-in-law, Toni Wiegand.
