Boone County 4-H team third in nation

Boone County’s Senior 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl team recently earned a third place in national award in their event. Team members included (l.-r.) Aidan Choat, Cassidy Maricle, Ryan Cumming and Nicholas Groeteke. The team competed in the National 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl competition held in Louisville, Kentucky, said Steve Pritchard, Extension educator in Boone and Nance counties. This competition is held in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exposition. The team competed in a field of 16 teams from across the nation. “This is a very competitive contest and it’s always amazing to see what knowledge these young adults have learned about different species,” said Pritchard. Aidan Choat was the 10th place high overall individual in the contest. Hilary Maricle was the coach who accompanied the team to Louisville. Team members expressed gratitude to the sponsors who helped support their travel expenses to the national contest.

Bill Curry to receive Nebraska Middle School Principal award

Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals has selected Bill Curry as the 2025-2026 Middle School Principal of the Year. This award is presented annually to a principal who has demonstrated outstanding leadership at the school, region, and state level.
