Dr. Marlee Jean Holmes of Walnut Creek, CA, formerly of Albion, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 9, 2024.

Dr. Marlee Jean (Bentjen) Holmes was born and raised on the farm in Loretto by her parents, Herman and Dolores Bentjen. She attended Albion Public Schools, and after high school graduation she went on to receive her PHD in biochemistry, and later her doctorate in ophthalmology.

She resided in California for many years enjoying life in Walnut Creek alongside her very loved horse, Max. She was active in dressage and won many state titles.

She is survived by one sister Beverly Larry Homolka of Fort Collins, CO, her partner of many years Dr. Richard Holmes, four nephews, one niece, and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carol Schafer. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with Rev. Carolann Hopcke officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.
