Funeral services for Verl D. Johnson, 70 of Grand Island, were held Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Rev. Mary Avidano Hubert officiated and interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion.
Rev. Mary Avidano Hubert officiated. Musical Selections included: “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed, “In Color” by Jamey Johnson, “Scars in Heaven” by Casting Crowns, “I Am Not Okay” by Jelly Roll. Honorary Pallbearers were: Emily Johnson, Alayna Johnson, Avery Johnson, Emersyn Johnson, Bentley Johnson, Kaley Arends, Sara Johnson, Marisela Hernandez, Gabriel Hernandez, Nayo Gomez, MaKyleigh Majerus and Corey Jochem. Pallbearers were Tyler Johnson, Brayden Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Austin Johnson, Scott Johnson and Cole Jochem. Verl Dean Johnson, son of Marvin and Rachel (Garbe) Johnson was born on October 29, 1953, in Albion, and he passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, at CHI-Bergan Mercy Medical Center, Omaha. He grew up on the family farm near St. Edward, and attended Saint Edward High School, graduating with the Class of 1972.
On July 8, 2005, he married Cynthia (Choat) Majerus at Yankton, S.D. The couple made their home in Albion, before moving to Grand Island in 2014.
He was a welder for many years at CNH Industrial. Johnson enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading western books. He liked checking out classic cars, trucks, and antique tractors. He loved spending time with his four-legged companions: Boo, Lolly, and Bennet. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Gary Johnson; infant granddaughter: Aubriella Johnson; and father-in-law: Alan Choat.
Verl D. Johnson is survived by his wife: Cynthia Johnson of Grand Island; three sons: Chad Johnson of Albion; Eric (Rachel) Johnson of David City, and Daniel (Christina) Johnson of Las Cruces, New Mexico; two stepsons: Kyle (Amber) Majerus of St. Edward and Tyler Majerus of Grand Island; stepdaughter: Lacy Majerus of Grand Island; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; mother-in-law: Judith Choat of Albion; along with other relatives, and friends.
