St. Edward speakers earn district medals

St. Edward’s speech team and coaches traveled to Scribner Monday for their D2-2 District Tournament, and came home with medals in three events and two state qualifiers. The OID of Kalvin Sindelar, Korina Bittner, Arlette Ireneo Gallardo, Noah Ketelsen and Lydia Ketelsen earned fifth place. Competing at the D1 State Speech Tournament on March 22 will be Kalvin Sindelar with a third place in humorous prose at districts, and Claire Tibor, who won the district championship in program oral interpretation (POI). Also competing at districts for St. Edward were Lakin Prososki, Josie Sock, Anthony Reader, Yoselin Herrera-Frias and Claire Tibor in OID; Lakin Prososki and Josie Sock in duet acting; Kalvin Sindelar and Korina Bittner in duet acting; Noah Ketelsen in humorous prose and Korina Bittner in serious prose.

Area students complete programs at Northeast

Boone County area students are among some 281 students who completed their degree, diploma or certificate programs in summer and fall 2023 from Northeast Community College. The names of the students will be listed in the program in the college’s commencement ceremony in May.

FFA members get welding training

Grant Gasper, a St. Edward FFA alumnus, was back in the St. Edward High School ag shop last Friday, Feb. 9, to help train FFA members in welding. The St. Edward members are continuing to develop their skills as they prepare for District Career Development Contests to be held Feb. 23. St. Edward FFA will also be hosting their free will donation pancake feed on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon at the St. Edward Community Center.

State will have summer EBT program

Surrounded by more than 20 state senators in the Warner Chamber at the State Capitol, Governor Jim Pillen touted a “Nebraska solution” that will allow the state to take advantage of the federally-funded Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (SEBT) program, while ensuring that additional needs of children and their families are met.
