Landauer to be inducted into Motorsports history

The Northeast Nebraska Motorsports Hall of Fame (NENMHOF) will officially enshrine it’s fourth Hall of Fame induction class at its Saturday, October 11th, 2025 Awards Banquet / Induction Ceremony. Among those to be inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame will be a standard in racing from the Albion community, Mike Landauer.

Trollope signs with Peru...

Preston Trollope, a senior at Boone Central, recently signed his letter of intent to compete on the Peru State Men’s Bobcat Bowling team in the coming year. Trollope was a state bowling qualifier just this past season, and will be under the direction of Dwyne DaMoude and Emily Samayoa. Family pictured are Chance, Preston, Barbara and Mike Trollope.

Speech team picks up fourth at state

The Cardinal Speech team traveled to Kearney last weekend, picking up a fourth-place sweepstakes finish, a State Champion and a number of individual medalists. Katelyn Curry picked up a State Championship for the Cardinals, Jordan Patzel won third in Poetry, Makenna Devine won sixth in the Entertainment category; and the OID team of Katelyn Curry, Brittany Sup, Eloise Martinez, Edwin Naranjo and Sydney Spangler took sixth overall.

30th annual “Gateway to Sandhills” event held

The Albion FFA alumni hosted the 30th-annual “Gateway to the Sandhills” bullride and event this weekend at the Boone CountyAg and Education Center Niewohner Arena at the fairgrounds. This year’s event stock was provided by Double S Bull Company crew.

District Champions!

The Boone Central Cardinal speech team outdistanced the field at the 2025 Class C1-4 District speech meet in Albion last week, qualifying 15 teammates and 13 events for the state tournament this weekend. The roster for the Cardinals included six District champions, six second place finishes and one third to qualify those teammates.

Edge of winter storm brings strong winds

The threat of a strong winter storm closed businesses and schools throughout Nebraska last week, and while the snow didn’t accumulate as much as feared (or perhaps hoped), high winds tore down power lines and especially trees in Albion and around the area, and the storm hit particularly hard to the southeast. Many readers called in downed trees and Cornhusker Power is still battling power outages, as well as southwest toward York.

Gateway to Sandhills event on Saturday

The 30th annual Gateway to the Sandhills Bull Ride is right around the corner, with the event scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 22 at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Niewohner Arena in Albion.

Pool league finishes up season Wednesday

Wednesday evening was the finale of the Wednesday night pool games at the Legion and four players came out on top. Taking first place were (upper left): Delbert Seier and Omar Lopez; upper right, Bob Foss and Nick Mook also fared well; and below: Nick Mook, pool commissioner racked up the balls for the final round of play. Some will have an additional chance in the March Alumni tournament
