Body (Editor’s Note: National Small Business Week is being observed this week, April 28-May 4, and the Boone County Development Agency provided the following opinion piece in support of the county’s small businesses.)

Body A program called “Reality 101” was presented to students at Boone Central Middle School Tuesday afternoon, April 9. I wish I had more time on deadline day to get involved with this, because I believe it has great value.

Body With no permanent zoning administrator on staff and uncertain prospects for finding one, Boone County Commissioners on Monday approved an agreement with Marvin Planning Consultants, Inc. to provide additional services.

Body I hope you and your families all enjoyed your Easter. I kind of feel sorry for parents/children in our area.

Body Child care has changed considerably through the years, and I can certainly see the difference in generations from where our own children were small until now. I’m not sure that we, as parents, were as concerned about child care 50 years ago as parents are today.

Body Boone County has some great things going for it, but it also has some big challenges. One of the important challenges is filling critically important positions -- both paid positions and those held by volunteers.

Body I’m glad Nebraskans will have a chance to vote in November on the state’s School Choice law. It will be an interesting election issue, because there are good points to the argument on both sides, and it boils down to how much weight you give each side.

Body These days, many of us have trouble concentrating on just one thing for the length of time it takes to finish that one task and then move on to another. That’s probably because there are so many tasks to be done, and sometimes it’s hard to prioritize which ones are most important.

Body Boone County residents who value the county’s present planning and zoning regulations and process should closely watch the status of LB 1375 in the Nebraska Legislature. This bill was introduced by State Sen.

Body First of all, I must admit that I don’t watch many NFL football games. They come and go.
