He continued to deny he was lying, until finally I threw my hands up in exasperation. Saying I needed a time out, I began to walk away when I felt a hand on my shoulder and heard his apology. He responded to the convicting of the Holy Spirit and repented.

There’s a fun old saying from people that “used to be” scared of the Fourth Estate – your newspaper. “Never argue with a man [or woman, 2024 edit] that buys ink by the barrel,” generally attributed to Attorney Roger Branigin of Indiana.

I’m a big fan of forgiveness and grace – I have to be, I’m a newspaper publisher. I’ll be the first one to admit that I – occasionally – make mistakes, perhaps more than occasionally, but the problem with my mistakes is that they’re rarely private things I can sweep under the rug.

Dear Editor, Mid-afternoon on Saturday, May 11 at the junction of Highway 14 and Highway 56, two vehicles were stopped. Until the eastbound driver in a red body, black top Bronco/ Jeep type vehicle decided to pull onto Highway 14 in front of my southbound red Ford Focus.

As I sit to write this first of hopefully many columns to come – I wanted to make sure everyone understood what this adventure in Albion means to my family. While we may not be moving to Albion, or Boone County, I want to make sure that all of you understand my “business model” for running my newspapers – local news is very nearly all that matters.

As it turned out, last weekend probably wasn’t the best time to be out of town. Julie and I were in Lincoln for the annual Nebraska Press Association Convention on Friday and Saturday.

A program called “Reality 101” was presented to students at Boone Central Middle School Tuesday afternoon, April 9. I wish I had more time on deadline day to get involved with this, because I believe it has great value.

With no permanent zoning administrator on staff and uncertain prospects for finding one, Boone County Commissioners on Monday approved an agreement with Marvin Planning Consultants, Inc. to provide additional services.
