The Albion community hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, Nov. 4, where 89 units of blood of life saving blood were collected from 78 donors.

Bill Schriver, an active member of the Albion community for more than 50 years, was named the 2024 Living Veteran by local veterans’ organizations at Monday’s Veterans Day ceremony in the Boone Central Gym.

On Saturday evening, the Petersburg Fire Department and Rescue Unit held their annual awards night and banquet. Among the awards was a special golden axe plaque presented by Fire Chief Baumgartner. Lieutenant Rod Stuhr has faithfully served the department as a fireman for over 30 years, first as a fireman and for many years as a department training officer. He also has served the Rescue Unit as an EMR for many of those years. Other awards presented went to Boomer Baumgartner and Dean Pelster who received gold watches for their 30 years of service to the department. The Stuhr family has a long-time tradition of supporting the Petersburg Fire Department. Shirley Stuhr also spent hours assisting with the bookkeeping duties during Vet’s term as Chief. The weekend time switch added an extra hour of daylight Sunday, November 3 for more than 300 to find their way through rural Albion country roads for the 41st annual Immanuel Zion Lutheran Church (IZ) soup and pie supper.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23,, seventh and eighth graders from Boone Central Middle School focused on the “Pay It Forward” theme during their annual Retreat Day.

On October 28, 2024, Albion’s local Girl Scout Troop helped in their group effort to support the planting of 5,000,000 trees in North America. Their Scout leaders requested professional help in this endeavor and had Tunink Roots help the scouts in planting the tree as well as learn about the specimen.

This quarter horse statue originally came from Billings, Mont. and was purchased by Donna Merten in February 1958.

Red Ribbon week will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Monday, October 28 through Friday, Nov.

According to Red Cross bloodmobile coordinators Kathy Koch, JoAnn Mattner and assistant Bonnie Wies the September 20th bloodmobile was a success with 37 units received surpassing their goal of 36. Coordinators noted there were quite a few cancellations due to illness.

Sunday, October 6 has been designated as Life Chain Sunday across the nation. Columbus area churches will come together with other Nebraska communities and over 1,000 communities in the United States and Canada to pray together for the end of abortion and for the victims of abortion.
