Funeral services for Margie A. (Saathoff) Rieck, 90, of Elkhorn were held Monday, July 15 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. Interment was at Prospect Hill Cemetery, and lunch followed at the church.

Pallbearers were Damon McMahon, Bryan Daily, Justin Kolb, Bob Boroff, Matt Rosales, Jon Jones Those fortunate to receive a ‘puff quilt’ made by Rieck were invited to bring it to the service and lay in on a pew.

“The Begats,” repeat performers at The Venue in Albion, will be returning to entertain in Albion this Thursday night, July 18. The Begats were started as a two-man acoustic-folk band by Collin Heiler and Matthew Teeslink, but the band has grown to a jam group of as many as eight musicians.

Kroeger retires from USPS

Newman Grove’s Postmaster, Michael Kroeger, closed his window for the last official time as the town’s postmaster last week on July 12, retiring after a 30-plus year career with the United States Postal Service. A social media post noted that Kroeger had served the community as postmaster for the last 17 years.

July 4 party lasts all day in Albion

Albion’s July 4th party lasted all day at various locations downtown. It started in the morning with the annual Kiddie Parade on Church Street sponsored by the Albion Chamber of Commerce.
