Boone County Commissioners, acting as a Board of Equalization, made determinations on a total of 48 valuation protests during their meeting Monday, July 15. Of the 48 protests, five were damaged property forms, which were approved as authorized by state law.

Motorcyle accident fatality reported

From the Boone County Sheriff’s Office On July 15, 2024 at approximately 5:04 p.m., the Boone County 911 Center received a call of a motorcyle accident that occured near mile marker 23 on Highway 52, just north of Primrose. Emergency crews were detailed to the accident scene, along with deputies.

Road conditions and staffing were major topics at the Boone County Commissioners meeting on Monday, July 15. Early in the meeting, a group of residents from the Akron area attended to discuss road conditions in that area and the need for improvements.

Nebraska cowboys among top riders at Roughstock Rodeo

Nebraska cowboys topped the bull riding event at the Boone County Fair Roughstock Rodeo on July 8, while South Dakota cowboys claimed first place in both the bareback and saddle bronc riding. More than 30 contestants were featured at this event, with several hundred fans watching from the bleachers at the outdoor arena.

Post #162 Juniors battle back in tourney, vying for top spot

The Albion Junior Legion Baseball team took to the field on Greg Paesl Memorial Field in Creighton for the 2024 Class C Junior Area 1 tournament with their first game on July 12. The Juniors fell to Crofton’s Post 128 boys in the first game in an uncharacteristic 11-1 game; and then defeated the #1 seeded Adams Post 221 in a final inning 8-7 win, in their second game to catapult them back into the tournament in good fashion.

FCCLA members bring home hardware from Washington State

Fifteen students from Boone Central High School recently participated in the Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America District Leadership STAR Competition. This annual event was held at the Convention Center in Seattle Washington and featured competitors from across the state.
