Purchases of a new school bus and a low mileage 10-passenger van were approved by the Boone Central School Board at their meeting early Monday morning, Aug. 12.
The one under the shelter is “The Free Little Library” in the Uptown Park shelter which contains books for all ages. Its hoped that parents or grandparents will take a book and read while the kids are playing in the park or anyone can take a book home read it and bring it back. There are kid’s books which might be good for a quick read. Also residents are welcome to add books to the collection.
Anna Meis of Elgin was re-elected in July to serve a new term as the District 1 representative on the Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB). Meis will again serve the counties of Antelope, Boyd, Cedar, Holt, Knox, Madison and Pierce on the board.

In lieu of regular races this week, the Boone County Raceway held Go-Cart Races at the local track. Racers from mainly the local area took the final positions in each race, from Albion, Columbus, Elgin, Scotia and more.
The Boone Central TeamMates Mentoring program was recently awarded the Chapter of the Year award from the North Central region. The Boone Central team reported 26 new mentors recruited to be matched with local students for the year. The Teammate mentors also completed more than 60 refresher trainings, and were able to complete all the new mentor training that was required for the growth of the chapter.
