Samantha Weeder wins award in UNL Quick Pitch contest

Samantha Weeder of Genoa, a senior majoring in agribusiness at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, won a $500 prize in the university’s recent 3-2-1 Quick Pitch competition. Hosted by the Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship, the event gives students from any college on campus a platform to deliver a three-minute business idea to volunteer judges from Nebraska’s entrepreneurship community for the chance to win cash prizes totaling $12,000.

Bill Schriver receives Living Veteran award

Bill Schriver, an active member of the Albion community for more than 50 years, was named the 2024 Living Veteran by local veterans’ organizations at Monday’s Veterans Day ceremony in the Boone Central Gym.

Toy Show held here Sunday

A first Albion Toy Show was held Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Cardinal Inn Event Center in Albion. The show was organized and staged by Linda, Aaron and Dan Hamling, and they are hoping to make it an annual event in Albion. This year’s show featured 14 exhibitors, with many collectors attending. The show next year will be held Nov. 9.

Medlin honored for 75 years

Beulah Chapter #40, Order of Eastern Star, Norfolk, honored Fern Medlin (right) for 75 years of membership recently. Fern was initiated Dec. 29, 1949 at Areme Chapter #124, Coleridge, NE when she was on Christmas break from college. She had just turned 18. She affiliated Jan. 19, 1960 with Rose Chapter #102 Albion. Fern affiliated with Beulah #40 Norfolk, on May 6, 2021. She held many offices during her years of membership. She was Worthy Matron in 1966 and Secretary from 1990 to 2008 (19 years). Associate Matron Elaine Hulse of Albion (left) performed the ceremony and honored Fern with her 75-year pin.

Albion Cub Scouts planning sock drive

Cub Scout Pack 155 of Albion is having a sock drive. They are accepting donations that will go to the Boone County Food Pantry. The Pack is asking for community donations of new socks, hats, gloves and mittens for all ages.
