2024 closed out on a high note for the Cardinals with the holiday tournament win and 2025 started off equally well with two solid wins. But the Cardinals of Boone Central (5-4) were brought back down to earth last week with a pair of defeats from conference foes O’Neill (4-5) and Wayne (11-1).

After an up and down week against some tough opponents the Boone Central Cardinals (5-4) were back in action against some .500 teams last week. Based off their play the week before, these looked like two very winnable games but unfortunately the ball didn’t bounce their way this week as they dropped both matches losing to O’Neill (5-5) at home on Friday and on the road at Wayne (6-7) on Saturday.

One might think - yeah, grab some pictures, write a few paragraphs and then slap it all together and *poof* there’s a newspaper! Why and how can it be late sometimes!? Listen, I totally hear you, I wonder the same thing all the time. There was a time, not so long ago, that all my papers were between 10-16 pages each week.

The Boone Central Girls’ wrestling team traveled to Columbus last week for the “Norm Mandstedt” Girls Invitational on Thursday, Jan. 9.

The Newman Grove/St. Edward Panther boys basketball team played in three games since last report, picking up one win and taking losses to Twin River and High Plains.

In a heart-wrenching game that saw momentum swing back and forth, the Lady Panthers couldn’t quite close the gap in a tough loss to the Elba Bluejays, falling 38-36. It was a hard fought battle on the road that found the Lady Panthers with a slow start and some critical late game moments that could have changed the outcome.

Services for Nancy Theresa (Mueller) Burbach, 65, of Norfolk, will be held at a later date. Nancy Theresa (Mueller) Burbach was born on February 2, 1959, in Albion, NE to Leo and Lois (Rojohn) Mueller, and she passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Countryview Nursing Home in Wayne.
