At 8:45 p.m. Saturday evening the Petersburg fire Department was called to the site of a burn pit fire 4 ½ miles south of Petersburg where rubbish and other material had been lit.

Track teams open at WSC Indoor

The Boone Central track opened their 2025 season at the Wayne State College indoor meet on Saturday, March 22nd. Both teams had a terrific start to their season in an unscored meet.

The Boone Central Youth Wrestling club had a number of youth travel to Grand Island last week for the 2025 NEUSA State wrestling tournament at the Heartland Event Center – and returned home with a number of medalists, and a lot of improvement.

Edge of winter storm brings strong winds

The threat of a strong winter storm closed businesses and schools throughout Nebraska last week, and while the snow didn’t accumulate as much as feared (or perhaps hoped), high winds tore down power lines and especially trees in Albion and around the area, and the storm hit particularly hard to the southeast. Many readers called in downed trees and Cornhusker Power is still battling power outages, as well as southwest toward York.

District Champions!

The Boone Central Cardinal speech team outdistanced the field at the 2025 Class C1-4 District speech meet in Albion last week, qualifying 15 teammates and 13 events for the state tournament this weekend. The roster for the Cardinals included six District champions, six second place finishes and one third to qualify those teammates.

Abbigail Brodersen of Wayne State College was selected as the Northern Sun Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week Wednesday afternoon following her performance over the weekend at the Vegas Warrior Invitational played in Henderson, Nevada.

Beavers qualify for state speech

The St. Edward Beaver Speech team traveled to Pope John last week for the D2-3 District invitational, and qualified six teammates that finished in the top three of their events for the State tournament this weekend.
