Nebraska Farmer announced last week that Newman Grove area native Addy Donelson was the 2024 scholarship recipient. Donelson, a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is an agriculture and environmental sciences communication major, with minors in Engler entrepreneurship and public policy.

Newman Grove’s Postmaster, Michael Kroeger, closed his window for the last official time as the town’s postmaster last week on July 12, retiring after a 30-plus year career with the United States Postal Service. A social media post noted that Kroeger had served the community as postmaster for the last 17 years.

Summer reading program has western theme

Many Newman Grove High School Alumni were on hand for the annual alumni luncheon on Saturday, June 1, at the high school cafeteria. In 2023, the Alumni Association changed to doing a lunch during Shell Creek Valley Days instead of Saturday night of Memorial weekend, to see if attendance would improve.

The Newman Grove Methodist Church will be celebrating 150 years of worship, service and discipleship during the June 22-23 weekend. The celebration will begin on Saturday, June 22 with a service at 3 p.m.

The 1974 graduates of Newman Grove High School celebrated 50 years at their reunion last Saturday. Class members attending included (back, l.-r.) John Williamson, Randy Johnson, Scott Severson, Zane Wondercheck, Jay Neely, Tom Dobbe, Mark Gotschall and Keith Rasmussen; (front row) Eugene Felber, Wayne Griel, Susan (Kamrath) Staub, Mick O’Brien, Rod Thompson, Connie (King) Gotschall, Peg (Stone) Schroeter, Dan Schroeter, Julie (Nygren) Roehrs, Susan (Staub) Nielsen and Cheryl (Johnson) Johnson.

After an hour and a half rain delay, the tractor parade that kicked off Shell Valley Days drove through the streets of Newman Grove. The tractor parade was in honor of Terry Radenslaben, Sr., a longtime resident and former schoolteacher and advisor at Newman Grove schools.

Shell Creek Valley Days was a success at Newman Grove last weekend despite rains that forced some schedule changes and relocations. The community received 2.5 to three inches of rain through the weekend, but it didn’t dampen spirits.
