Albion’s interfaith Vacation bible School is underway this week, June 10-14, at Zion Lutheran Church and St. Michael’s School.

A special meeting of the Boone County History Museum was held on Thursday, June 6 at the museum, with a vote to start progress on a new building addition. The concrete cost will be about 165 yards at $131 per yard based on a successful bid from B & S Concrete of Petersburg, and the accepted building bid was $92,060 ($58,500 materials and $33,560 labor) from Beckman Lumber of Elgin.

Petersburg was a busy community last week, hosting an overnight stay for the Bike Ride Across Nebraska at the Highway 14 Park on Wednesday, followed by the annual car show and Petersburg Fire Department Cruise Night on Saturday, June 8. Both of these events brought many people into town.

Boone County Commissioners gathered on Monday, June 10 to review plans for budget season, including hearing of expected wage increases to keep some county staff in the future. The increase of minimum wage to $15 per hour, plus some competiive local wages, have driven a few county agencies to consider wage increases as a big part of their next budgets this season.

At an early morning meeting Monday, the Boone Central School Board acted on several items in preparation for the upcoming school year. The biggest purchase approved was a new boiler for the high school building at $53,973 from Merit Mechanical of Tilden.

Albion Education Foundation has awarded college scholarships to three of Boone Central High School’s 2024 graduates. These are merit-based scholarships, awarded to the three topranked students in the Boone Central class of 2024 based on specified coursework.

Albion’s Downtown Summer Concert Series will be opening on Thursday, July 4, with special entertainment by two specialty acts at The Venue on Fourth Street. “SongBlast, Dueling Guitars” will entertain from 5 to 7 p.m.

Boone County Health Center (BCHC) this week announced the signing of Dr. Bryant Carlson, MD, as an addition to their medical team.
