Babbling Brook
What a week.
I always thought that with all the nasty rhetoric and name calling and jibes thrown in the last election or two that there would certainly be more crazy folks attempt to take the life of a person wanting to lead our country.
I didn’t ever seen any such attempts, or at least no live attempts, on former President Barack Obama, and I certainly haven’t seen any against President Joe Biden.
But to watch the video of former President and candidate Donald J. Trump was a bit surreal.
We’ve always been able to see those things on television - but they’re usually grainy, and based only on one camera perspective, and purely only if the camera happened to be facing in the direction that would capture the action.
Nowadays, with everyone having a personal recording device and being nosey as all get out, you could immediately watch interviews, see aerial shots of the surroundings, get a birds-eye-view of the entire presentation area, and the place the shooter was, some pictures of the shooter, all while picture-in-picture watching former President Trump “take one for the team.”
How very terrifying that there are a whole new lot of young folks that are zealous enough to attempt to take a life, rather than suffer through four years of someone they don’t like.
What a strange concept that truly is.
If the Democrats in power had simply allowed Trump to take his second term last election - they’d be done with him for good, never again to worry about his policies, mouth or actions. But instead, here he is, running for President of the United States - a convicted felon of sorts - and now, suddenly, having to directly fear for his life.
I guess that’s part of the program and perhaps part of the “game” but it is unfortunate that in the world we live in today with our tolerance and our crying for peace and existence with each other, that someone, somewhere still gets angry enough to not only destroy the life of someone else, but quite literally destroy or end their own. I don’t know if I’d call it “guts” rather than stupidity at that point. You’re okay with your own life being over, but have a little consideration for those folks around you as well.
You won’t be regarded as a hero for murdering someone in cold blood - that’s not how the system works.
But, here we are. A bloodied Trump shaking his fist a the sky in a show of defiance and as much strength as a 70-year-old politican can muster.
And all we get is more questions. Why wasn’t the shooter found earlier?
Why didn’t the police listen to the requests for inspection of the area?
How did the Service men and women that are trained, respected and feared not see or take care of the issue earlier?
And then, of course, we also have the loss of innocent life in the entire fray to consider as well.
One thing some of the news media does well is the refusal to publish the name of the terrorists that attempt to do these things. I applaud that.
But this man who died protecting his family, Corey D. Comperatore, learn his name. That’s a true American hero.
I don’t like to always take sides, I think that’s dangerous in politics but I also did find it interesting that Trump vowed to send his own son to Japan for the duration of the campaign. For such a Second Amendment hero - having the wealth and wherewithall to send your own child to a country where guns are illegal nationwide seems a bit .... hypocritcal?
My wife said she’d leave me if I ever became President. It’s been a dream since about the third grade, but after 24 years with her this week, I guess I’ll never really know what it would have been like.
