We’ve got busy times and slow times in the newspaper business - school starting is a big deal, assessments and valuations are a big deal - there’s things all over the place most times. But for some reason, June has become the endall.

I get it - social media is super handy. It’s a vote for self-reliance, it’s a vote for “knowledge is power” or whatever thing you want to add to it.

I’ve had a few fun conversations with my staff this week - with graduation and state golf and state track and a host of the regular news things, we’re absolutely overflowing! The news always comes fast during this time of year, and this year, it seems like more and more of it has stacked up on top of each other. With the addition of what feels like a really early Memorial Day, State track and graduation really felt rushed as well.

I love election season it’s almost as exciting as an auction as I described a few columns ago. Elections have suspense, drama, invested parties - but really the part that makes me the most happy about elections is that it is a constant reminder about what makes this country great - participation.

I have a special place in my mind for auctions. I love bidding and winning and all the rest.

It almost seems impossible, but the mid-point of the year is nearly upon us, and with that it’s time for another class of our brightest to head off into the world. I have a college age daughter, and a high schooler and two under second grade, so I’m in this parenting thing for the long haul.

After my medical escapades almost a lifetime ago now, my wife purchased me one of those watches that “watches” you. It tells the time, and the stuff, for sure - but it also tells me how many steps I’ve taken for the day.
