Albion’s “Weekend Warriors” young wrestling teams traveled to Central City on Sunday, Feb. 15 to take part in a junior wrestling tournament at the Bison Activity Dome.

The 68th annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl football game will be played on Saturday, June 6 in Kearney, with a number of local players on the roster. Playing for this year’s North team will be: Albion: Brogan Benes This year’s North team coaches are Cameron Lenhart of Bennington; Kurt Altig of North Platte; Troy Schuleter of Arlington; Tony Kobza of Raymond Central; Jim Clarkson of Clarkson-Leigh; Brandon Mimick of Bennington and Zach Byrd of Fort Calhoun.

The Boone Central boys were back in action at the Mid State Conference Tournament on Feb 6th as they took on the O’Neill Eagles (4-14) in the ninth-place game at O’Neill. This one wasn’t pretty, but the boys got the job done and secured the win.

The Boone Central Cardinal wrestling team wrestled in a triangular on Thursday, Jan. 29, picking up matches against Columbus Lakeview and Scotus Central.

Boone Central 6th Grade Boys recently competed at the Summerland Boys Basketball Tournament that hosted 8 teams in their division. Their first game resulted in a close loss to a good EPPJ team, and because of this, they were forced to enter the consolation bracket. There they came away with big wins over Lutheran High Northeast and O’Neill High to win the Consolation Championship. The Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers boys’ basketball team faced some tough opponents in their last three games, pushing toward the slide into the end of this year’s season.

Three Lady Panther wrestlers ended their regular seasons at the B-1 District tournament in Plainview last week. At 120, Mackenzie Wiese (13-16) won with a bye, pinned Segelke of Minden, lost by pin to Thompson of Yutan and lost by pin to Settje of Laurel-Concord-Colerdige.

Representing Newman Grove/St. Edward’s bowling team, Serenity Strong won sixth-place at the Class B Girls State bowling tournament in Lincoln this past Monday.

The Albion “Weekend Warrior” young wrestlers traveled to the Elkhorn Valley trophy tournament on Sunday, Feb. 8 for an invitational.
