Lady Cards finish successful campaign

And thus concludes my third season covering the Boone Central Lady Cards basketball team. It has been an adventure following these young women and Coach Imus for three seasons, filled with highs and lows. But there has definitely been a trajectory this team has been on over these years and that is up. Led by some talented young freshmen and sophomores that have grown into talented hard-working juniors and seniors.

Two Cardinal wrestlers pick up silver

The Boone Central girls and boys wrestling teams both qualified members for the 2026 individual tournaments that were held last week at the CHI Center in Omaha – returning home with two state medalists for the program. “What a long week with lots of good wrestling,” said Coach Josh Majerus.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Cardinals needed a short memory to shake off the late season losing skid and refocus for subdistricts. They drew the O’Neill subdistrict C1-5 as a #2 seed meaning they would start things out against #3 Arlington (12-11) on Feb 17th.

Boys prep for Fullerton...

The Newman Grove/St. Edward Panther boys’ basketball team will travel to Fullerton for the D1-6 Sub-District competition next week. They will take on Neligh-Oakdale (5-16) to begin the post-season play.

The Boone Central Cardinals boys basketball team started the final stretch of the regular season with two tilts against struggling teams and came away with victories to give them a 3-game winning streak heading into their final game of the regular season.

A rough week for the Lady Cardinals as they struggled through their final two games of the regular season enroute to the playoffs. BC 38 – Centura 56 The Cardinals headed to Centura on Feb 10th to face a tough Centurions team (19-3).

Cardinals sending seven to “big show”

With the Nebraska School Activities Association’s C-1 District competition down, Boone Central will be sending seven young men to the CHI Center in Omaha this weekend for the state wrestling tournament. The Cardinals picked up secondplace at the District tournament in Madison last weekend, just 1 point shy of the championship team title with 125 team points.
State qualifying Cardinals included: Will Roberts, Carter Lueken, Daron Dozler, Colton Juzenas, Gavin Mauch, Bentley Stuhr, and Carson Anderson

Benes on Shrine Bowl North team

The 68th annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl football game will be played on Saturday, June 6 in Kearney, with a number of local players on the roster. Playing for this year’s North team will be: Albion: Brogan Benes This year’s North team coaches are Cameron Lenhart of Bennington; Kurt Altig of North Platte; Troy Schuleter of Arlington; Tony Kobza of Raymond Central; Jim Clarkson of Clarkson-Leigh; Brandon Mimick of Bennington and Zach Byrd of Fort Calhoun.

Cardinal basketball downs Eagles

The Boone Central boys were back in action at the Mid State Conference Tournament on Feb 6th as they took on the O’Neill Eagles (4-14) in the ninth-place game at O’Neill. This one wasn’t pretty, but the boys got the job done and secured the win.
