Newman Grove Tree Board will again be awarding $100 tree grants to four city residents in 2024 in their annual program. The grants are for reimbursement of purchased and planted tree/ trees.

Economic development is critical to any community. However, for rural areas it can be the difference between boarded up storefronts and new housing developments.

Drawing a close on the last 17 years of ownership, Jim and Julie Dickerson passed the keys of the Albion News/Boone County Tribune and Petersburg Press to new owners at the end of last week – Brook D. and April Curtiss of Plainview.

Maria Moseman, a senior at Riverside High School, was selected to receive a $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the International P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Boone County 4-Her Cassidy Maricle is one of 18 4-H members from throughout the state who recently won Nebraska 4-H Foundation Scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year. “These 4-H’ers are commended for their outstanding accomplishments in 4-H, dedication to community service and high scholastic achievement,” said Steve Pritchard, Boone-Nance Extension educator.

Gov. Jim Pillen issued an emergency declaration on Sunday in the aftermath of severe weather that started April 25 and continued through April 27, resulting in damage from thunderstorms, high winds, rain and reported tornadoes. Counties covered in this declaration include Douglas, Washington, and Lancaster.
