St. John Class of 1964 gathers for reunion

Fifteen of the 24 members of the Petersburg St. John the Baptist Alumni Class of 1964 gathered Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Petersburg American Legion Club to socialize and get reacquainted after 60 years.

Rae Valley Days a success despite high heat, humidity

High heat and humidity last weekend didn’t hold down the enthusiasm for the antique farming demonstrations at the 42nd annual Nebraska State Antique Tractor & Horse Plowing Contest near Petersburg. However, the conditions did hold down crowd size somewhat last Sunday when temperatures at Charlie’s Park reached 95 degrees.
FRESH POTATOES -- Children fill bags and buckets with potatoes from Dave Wilcox’s potato digger at the Nebraska STate Antique Tractor & Horse Plowing Contest last Sunday.

Free Little Library opens near park

The one under the shelter is “The Free Little Library” in the Uptown Park shelter which contains books for all ages. Its hoped that parents or grandparents will take a book and read while the kids are playing in the park or anyone can take a book home read it and bring it back. There are kid’s books which might be good for a quick read. Also residents are welcome to add books to the collection.

New concrete completed...

The new concrete at the Petersburg Splash Pad was completed this past week. With just the electrical hookups to be finalized, the construction may soon be completed.The Village Board had previously announced that the new construction/repair deadline was going to be August 15.

Rueth honored for 50 years of membership

Last week in Knotty Pine Post 334 Commander Hank Thieman and Post secretary Jerry Schrage presented Korean Conflict Veteran Doug Rueth a certificate for 50 years of Continuous membership to Post #334.

Discussion topics at the Petersburg Community Club July meeting included Carnival Days. Allen Thorberg stated DC Lynch reported lower sales then 2023 which had been an above average year.

Petersburg wins Best of Theme in fair parade

Petersburg Community Club’s parade float won the Best of Theme first place award at the Boone County Fair Parade Sunday. The community float fit well with this year’s theme, “Stars, Stripes & Summer Nights.” Family members of the late Larry Temme (photo below) were honored as the parade grand marshals

BRAN votes to give Petersburg scholarships

Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN), recently announced its riders voted Petersburg the “Best Community” during the 42nd annual event. The award is a $1,500 scholarship that will be designated to Petersburg students who are or will be attending Nebraska trade schools, colleges or universities.
