Library hosts open house in Village Campus location

Last Wednesday evening the Petersburg Public Library hosted an open house in their new location in the Village Campus. Guests were treated to hot chocolate, fresh cookies, candy, crackers and various snacks. Library Board members Jennifer Leifeld and Elaine Beckman provided an opportunity to use and understand the newer interactive computer system now available by creating an Active Articulated Arachnid. Board members noted these programs are available to anyone wanting to use them and kids that like to be creative would love them. Board member Jim Leifeld was also available to answer questions. The library board would also like to acquire a set of Legos if anyone has one to donate.

AMH President awarded by NHA

On October 16th, John Mlnarik, president of Antelope Memorial Hospital’s Board of Trustees, was recognized as the winner of the Nebraska Hospital Association’s 2024 Trustee of the Year Award. The award ceremony was held during the NHA Annual Convention at Embassy Suites in LaVista.

Harvest challenges during wind, drought...

Picture taken Thursday, October 17 southwest of Petersburg a miserable day with wind guests from 35 to 40 miles an hour at times totally obscuring the combines in the fields. Harvest has been in full swing during the past weeks much of the dryland has been harvested as well as some irrigated.

Bingo night held at 386 Tap...

Saturday evening 386 Tap was filled with laughter and hopeful prize winners when the Petersburg Community Club hosted their annual October Bingo Night. Committee members Nathan Thieman and Tyson Lodge called the numbers while Kaitlin Bachman ran the numbers board and Cheri Werner distributed cards.

Petersburg blood drive beats goal

According to Red Cross bloodmobile coordinators Kathy Koch, JoAnn Mattner and assistant Bonnie Wies the September 20th bloodmobile was a success with 37 units received surpassing their goal of 36. Coordinators noted there were quite a few cancellations due to illness.

The Petersburg Fire Department announced absolutely no burning permits will be issued until drought conditions improve..

Pope John Students mandated for service

Seven Pope John XXIII Central Catholic students were mandated as lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) Thursday morning, September 26th at an all-school 8:15 a.m. Mass.

Flag burning held

Petersburg American Legion Post 334 was joined by Newman Grove American Legion Post # 73 for a flag retirement ceremony which began with the presentation of the colors by both posts and national anthem.
Burning flags were Jerry Bode, Clyde Stuhr and Dale Beckman.
