It was a light week for the Boone Central Cardinals boys basketball team with only one match on the schedule. The Cards earned a first-round bye with their solid play last week so the only team on the calendar this week was the Battle Creek Braves (9-8).

The BC Lady Cardinals picked up some medals at the Dale Bonge Invitational on Febr. 1 in the Boone County Agricultural and Education Center/Niewhoner Arena.

Nebraska Wrestle is a media group from Nebraska that broadcasts wrestling and named one of the Lady Cardinal wrestlers this week for her achievements. Boone Central’s Leynn Luna was nominated as Nebraska “wrestler of the week” for her performance over the last couple weeks.

The Boone Central Cardinal wrestling team traveled to Madison on Jan. 24, just shy of the top three teams in the tournament, and medaling eight competitors.

After an up and down week against some tough opponents the Boone Central Cardinals (5-4) were back in action against some .500 teams last week. Based off their play the week before, these looked like two very winnable games but unfortunately the ball didn’t bounce their way this week as they dropped both matches losing to O’Neill (5-5) at home on Friday and on the road at Wayne (6-7) on Saturday.

The Boone Central boys and girls wrestling teams hosted the 2025 Mid-States Conference wrestling tournament in the Boone County Agriculture and Education Center/ Niewhoner Arena this past weekend – affectionately dubbed the “Battle in the Barn.”

The Boone Central Girls’ wrestling team traveled to Columbus last week for the “Norm Mandstedt” Girls Invitational on Thursday, Jan. 9.

2024 closed out on a high note for the Cardinals with the holiday tournament win and 2025 started off equally well with two solid wins. But the Cardinals of Boone Central (5-4) were brought back down to earth last week with a pair of defeats from conference foes O’Neill (4-5) and Wayne (11-1).
