Alum wins UNL stipend

Ash Ballentine of Saint Edward is among 200 Husker undergraduates who have been awarded stipends by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to participate in research with a faculty mentor this fall. Ballentine, a senior majoring in history, will participate in the project “Religion, Women and Media: How the IBLP Uses Social Media to Control the Lives of Women” as part of Nebraska’s Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experiences Program, which supports undergraduates to work with faculty mentors in research or creative activities.

Big Give registers 37 for December event

This December, 37 Boone County charitable organizations will be raising awareness and funds to support key projects during the 11th Boone County Big Give. This is the highest number of participating organizations in the event’s history with multiple projects in each community.

Freedom Walk held...

Above and below: a few pictures from the Freedom Walk held on Sunday, Sept 15 at Fuller Park in remembrance of Patriots Day Sept 11. The Honor Guard led the walkers to the Good Samaritan Home where they stopped to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the National Anthem. The group proceeded to the Good Samaritan Estates where they stopped to say the Pledge of Allegiance with the residents and sing “God Bless America.” The Honor Guard led the group back to the park where the Sons of the Legion had a meal waiting for the walkers. Petersburg Legion holds Friese Golf open

The third annual Don Friese golf open was hosted by the Petersburg American Legion Post 334 with 12 teams competing on the Petersburg course. Friese is remembered as a long time Legion member and avid golfer.
