Top left and center -- Two of the show cars on display at the 14-32 Cruisers Show & Shine on June 8 at the Highway 14 Park. Nearly 50 vehicles were displayed at the show. Below, and lower left -- Vehicles of all types joined in the June 8 Cruise Night on Petersburg’s Main Street, and a few did burn-outs, leaving clouds of smoke. “Pop Rocks,” a popular band, provided a wide range of rock n’ roll music during the dance.

Grasshopper Awareness and Control in wet times

Dry conditions the past few years have reduced, natural grasshopper population controls that thrive in warm, humid weather. While recent rains may have helped slow number growth, grasshopper populations may become an issue for pasture and hay crops as the summer continues if dry weather returns.

Goodwill Fund donates to several area organizations

Cornhusker Power Goodwill Fund trustees awarded $6,765 to 29 organizations at their May 13 meeting. Area organizations receiving funds were: Albion -- Albion Community Blood Drive, $100 for food; Boone County Fitness Center, $100 for pool toys; Boone County Health Center Foundation, $500 for mammogram equipment; and Good Samaritan Society Albion, $100 for garden flowers and vegetables.
