Morris joins TC Vet offices

A new veterinarian has joined the team at TC Vet in Albion, Elysia (“Ely”) Morris, DVM, started with her official rounds just after Memorial Day this past May. Morris is a native of northern Minnesota, and said that working on her extended family’s dairy operation helped cultivate and create a love for animals, specifically beef cattle as she learned more, which led her into veterinarian practice.

The Begats coming Thursday to Venue

“The Begats,” repeat performers at The Venue in Albion, will be returning to entertain in Albion this Thursday night, July 18. The Begats were started as a two-man acoustic-folk band by Collin Heiler and Matthew Teeslink, but the band has grown to a jam group of as many as eight musicians.

Nebraska cowboys among top riders at Roughstock Rodeo

Nebraska cowboys topped the bull riding event at the Boone County Fair Roughstock Rodeo on July 8, while South Dakota cowboys claimed first place in both the bareback and saddle bronc riding. More than 30 contestants were featured at this event, with several hundred fans watching from the bleachers at the outdoor arena.

“Bobbers” event draws youth to fishing

On Saturday, June 15, roughly eighty local youth anglers competed at Stevensons lake for their shot at one of three trophies. Ethan Salber was quoted saying, “It’s a good turnout… Lots of kids we saw last year are returning.” He went on to say, “The fishing poles and equipment we gave out as prizes last year are being used by the kids today.” A rainy, humid, and blustery day.

July 4 party lasts all day in Albion

Albion’s July 4th party lasted all day at various locations downtown. It started in the morning with the annual Kiddie Parade on Church Street sponsored by the Albion Chamber of Commerce.
OPENING EVENT -- Many children and parents took part in the annual July 4th Kiddie Parade last Thursday on Church Street.

Rascal Martinez to be featured at The Venue

Rascal Martinez, a talented musician who grew up in rural Nebraska, will be featured at The Venue on Fourth in Albion this Thursday, July 11, in the second performance of the Summer Concert Series. Martinez, who started playing at a young age in the basement of his family home, plays a variety of music.

Lois Zegers’ quilts reflect lifetime love for her family

Lois Zegers, Petersburg resident and longtime quilter, estimated she has quilted more than 200 quilts since she began quilting in 2000, and most recently finished 33 since October of last year. Zegers really had no real interest in quilting until she and husband Jim moved into Petersburg in 2000, and “for once” she had time to try something and became acquainted with the St.

Albion/Boone Central alumni gather for 2024 banquet

Classmates over the years from Albion High School and Boone Central High Schools gathered on Saturday, June 15 for the annual Alumni Banquet in the performance gymnasium at Boone Central High School. Officers in charge of this year’s event were: co-presidents, Danielle Koch and Emma Bounds; vicepresidents: Amy Allgood and Stacy Gragert; secretary: Emily Olson and treasurer, Brittany Childress.
