Farmers planning to use chemigation (fertigation) to apply fertilizer or other chemicals to crops have a deadline of June 1, 2024, for permit renewal from the Lower Loup Natural Resources District. Completed chemigation permit applications must be received by the LLNRD on or before that date.

Burger Bash aids tornado victims

Area residents turned out in force to assist tornado victims at the annual Burger Bash last Friday, May 17, at Albion ThriftyWay. Manning the Boone-Nance Cattlemen’s grill for part of the event were Brian Honholdt and Chris Kohtz. Some 600 hamburgers served, and the free will donations totaled $2,711. All funds will assist tornado victims through United Way of the Midlands.

More than 300 bike riders from throughout Nebraska and several other states will be in Petersburg in just two weeks. Area residents are invited to help welcome the riders and attend the various events and meals planned in Petersburg Wednesday and Thursday, June 5 and 6.

Scholarship awards to 2024 Boone Central grads

Out of 54 students in the Boone Central 2024 senior class, 47 applied for local scholarships to continue their education. Of those 47, 38 of them (or 81%) received at least one local scholarship for a grand total of more than $84,000 in scholarships awarded from the local area community, according to Leanne Blanchard, high school counselor.
