Albion man arrested on attemped murder charge

In the early hours of Wednesday, March 11, the Albion Police Department responded to a call from the Boone County Health Center about a stabbing victim that had been brought to the facility. After speaking with the victim, the Albion Police Department identified a suspect, Thomas R.

Firefighters making progress on four large burns in state

Firefighters are making progress battling wildfires in the state, with at least partial containment now reported on all four fires. The fires: the Morrill Fire in western Nebraska’s Morrill, Garden, Arthur and Keith counties; the Road 203 Fire in Thomas and Blaine counties; the Cottonwood Fire in Lincoln County; and the Anderson Bridge Fire in Cherry County, have burned more than 700,000 total acres and are the largest in the state’s history.

A rather unique accident situation occured last week during slick conditions on Highway 91 west of Albion. No injuries were reported, but it made for an interestingly unfortunate picture by some passers-by who snapped this photo.

Cardinal NUCOR project in top six

Boone Central’s industrial arts students were part of a feature by NUCOR for this year’s Ken Iverson Project in a steel-making and welding competition amongst area high schools. Fifteen schools participated in the event, with the Cardinals making the top six of the project sculptures, which will move to the 2026 Norfolk Area Home and Garden Show on March 20-22.

CPPD seeking Leadership energy camp candidates

Cornhusker Public Power District is seeking applications from 9, 10 and 11 grade students to attend the Youth Energy Leadership Camp. Cornhusker Public Power District will sponsor six students to attend the all-expense-paid camp, including transportation to and from camp.

Cardinal varsity sweeps Battle Creek event

The Cardinals traveled to Battle Creek on Saturday February 21 to compete in the always challenging Battle Creek Invitational. The Cardinals came home with the Varsity Sweepstakes championship narrowly edging out the host Battle Creek.
