Groeteke wins at “Rama” event

Nicholas Groeteke was named Champion Market Steer and Overall Champion Market Beef at the Boone County Junior Leaders “Beef-A-Rama” that was held over Memorial Day weekend at the Albion fairgrounds.

Porter Memorial Playground to be dedicated

A special dedication ceremony will be held at the Eli Porter Memorial Playground next Thursday, June 12 at 4 p.m. to commemorate the finished project for all of Albion’s youth. The event will be held near the playground in Fuller Park.

Cook presented award...

The Albion American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 Auxiliaries recently honored Denise Cook (at right) as this year’s Living Auxiliary Member Award winner. She was presented her award by Katie Score. Cook has been a member of the VFW Post 736 Auxiliary for 13 years, she has held the office of president for 5 years. From the social media post: “She is very active in the auxiliary and the community! Thank you Denise for all you do! Congratulations on this well deserved honor!”

On Sunday, May 25th, 2025, the Boone County Historical Society hosted their gazebo dedication. A short program was held in the museum due to the weather.

Post #223 holds Memorial Day ceremonies

Petersburg American Legion Commander Hank Thieman welcomed a very large crowd to the 2025th Memorial Day program noting this is usually held at the Veteran’s Memorial along Highway 14 but weather conditions necessitated that it be moved inside the Legion Club.

Border Wars shooting event held...

A special event at the Boone County Agriculture and Education Center and Niewhoner Arena this past week was the “Border Wars” mounted shooting competition. Shooters from Alberta, Canada; and Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming took part in the event. The event was hosted by the High Plains Shooters group from Litchfield, and is just one of a few events competing for the CMSA National Championship in Lincoln.

TeamMates celebrating 25 years at BC

TeamMates mentoring has been a part of Boone Central for 25 years! We had our annual spring banquet April 27 celebrating 70 mentors and 74 mentees. We have two graduating seniors- Kyler Buck and Tracy Perez.

Graduates honored at commencement

The Boone Central graduation commencement ceremony was held on Sunday, May 18 to a packed crowd of parents, family and friends. The exercises opened with “Pomp and Circumstance” by the Boone Central High School Band, and Thomas Roberts served as Master of Ceremonies.
