250th to be celebrated at Library

In honor of American’s 250th birthday this year, the St. Edward Public Library is hosting Chautauqua Days for their annual summer reading event, June 30 - July 3. The event will be held at the St. Edward Community Center, beginning at 10:30 each morning.

Pull held at Fairgrounds...

The Albion Tractor Pull held on Sunday June 7th at the Boone County Fairgrounds was a huge success. The infield of the race track was bursting with tractors from many counties according to the license plates on the trucks and trailers parked west of the track.

Missoula Theatre to start auditions on June 15

The Albion Area Arts Council has continued plans to welcome the Missoula Children’s Theatre back to Albion June 15–20 with this year’s production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes!” All students who have completed Kindergarten through the 12th grade are invited to audition and participate in the week-long theatre training and play at the end of the week with a number of performances. “With 50–60 roles available, this is a wonderful opportunity for local youth to gain confidence, make new friends, and experience the magic of live theatre!” Auditions will be held on Monday, June 15, with registration starting at 11:30 a.m.

Schindel honored with Auxiliary award...

The Albion American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars members presented the Living Auxiliary award this year to local member, Connie Schindel. Schindel serves as the treasurer for VFW Post 736 Auxiliary. She is pictured above with the members and below with her family.

Venue on 4th opens season

The Albion Economic Development Corporation and a host of local vendors kicked off the season in downtown Albion with a Cinco De Mayo celebration at the Venue on 4th last week. Cinco De Mayo is Spanish for ‘Fifth of May’, and is an annual worldwide celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza.

Nebraska junior high rodeo finals held in Albion

The third annual Nebraska Junior High (5-8 grade) State Finals Rodeo was held over the weekend at the Boone County Agriculture and Education Center and Niewohner Arena. More than 90 contestants from 55 different came to the community on May 7-8 to show their talents, including: Girls events: Pole Bending, Breakaway, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing, Boys events: Chute Dogging, Breakaway, Tie Down Roping, Goat Tying, Bull/Steer Riding, Bareback Steer Riding, Saddle Bronc Steer Riding, Boys/Girls events: Team Roping, Ribbon Roping.
